‘The Ass in Lion’s Skin’, A beautiful Aesop Fable that tells us that how we should pay more attention to speech than looks in life
Once upon a time, an ass was wandering here and there in the forest. Then suddenly he found a lion’s skin left by a hunter.
Ass put on that skin and hid under the cover of a bush. Whenever any animal passed through that path, Ass used to come suddenly in front of them, due to which those animals used to get scared seeing him. He was enjoying doing this. By doing this he started thinking of himself as the King of the Jungle.
All this continued like this, then a fox was passing through that path, suddenly that Ass came in front of that Fox, due to which he got scared. The Ass starts laughing very loudly. On hearing the sound of Ass laughing, Fox stops running and looks back, He was surprised to see and the fox also starts laughing.
On reaching the Ass, the Fox said, “I too was scared to see you but you finally proved your stupidity by showing that you are not what you are showing. You could not hide your truth for long.”

Application of This Aesop’s Fable Story in Real-life
- We should never pretend in our daily life. We must show ourselves what we really are.
- In today’s fashion era, we pay special attention to our clothes. But the real beauty is not known by dress but by thought and speech. Therefore, along with the dress, attention should also be paid to the words.
- If you want to identify a person, don’t judge him by his looks. Pay attention to his voice. The clothes may change but the speech never changes.
- Often you must have seen that people of good thoughts do not pay much attention to their dress. Because they know very well that people will be influenced more by their words, not by their clothes. They just followed one rule in their life i.e. Simple Living, High Thinking.
