The Four Wives | Moral Story
We all must have read the story of four wives. A story that is simple and instructive for people of all ages. For young children, this story put a profound impact on their personalities as well as their thinking.
A long time ago, there was a king. He was very rich. The king was highly respected in his kingdom. He had four Wives.
He loved his four wives very much. But among them, he loved his fourth wife the most. He used to give her the jewels robbed from the robbers & never disappointed her.
He also loved his third wife very much because she was very beautiful. The King wanted to show her beauty to everyone. However, he was always afraid that she might run away with another man.
The king also loved his second wife. His second wife was very thoughtful and trustworthy. Whenever the king had any problem, he used to go to his second wife. His second wife always helped him and supported him in times of trouble.
Now, the king’s first wife, who was his most faithful wife. She helped the king in every single big task. She also took care of him and contributed fully to his royal work. But the king did not love his first wife but the king’s first wife loved him very much.
One day the king fell ill. Due to a long illness, he knew that he would not be able to live for long. He started thinking about how lonely he would be if he died. He did not want to be alone.
Thus, the King called his fourth wife and asked, “I love you very much, keep you rich with everything. Take full care of yourself. Now that I am dying, will you come with me at the last moment?”
On hearing the King’s words, his fourth wife replied, “Absolutely Not!” and left without saying another word.
The answer of the fourth wife felt like a sharp knife in the heart of the King. The unhappy King called his third wife and asked, “I have loved you all my life. Now when I am dying, will you come with me at this last moment?”. “No!” The third wife replied. “Life is so beautiful here, when you die, I will remarry with someone else.” Hearing this, the heart of the king was completely broken.
The king sadly called his second wife and asked again, “You always helped me whenever I needed help. Today again I need your help. Will you join me when I die?”.
“I’m sorry, I can’t help you right now.” The second wife replied. “Most of all I can take you to your grave.” The answer came like the lightning of thunder and the king was devastated.
Just then, a voice comes “I will be with you. Wherever you go, I follow you.”
When the king looked up, he found his first wife there. She was very thin. It seemed as if she was suffering from malnutrition. Very sadly, the king said that he made a mistake. While staying with her, he (The King) should have looked after her better.
Actually, like a king, we all have four wives in our lives.
The fourth wife is our body. Whether we do anything to make our body good. But in the end, she leaves after our death.
Our third wife is our wealth, status, and property. When we die, they all go to the others.
The second wife is our family and friends. They live with us as long as we live, but they can live even after our death.
The first wife is, in fact, our soul. It stays with us all the time. But we ignore that. It is often neglected in our quest for material, wealth, and sensual pleasure.
Just think, this is the one thing that follows us wherever we go. We should also pay attention to this first wife of ours. This is our first duty.

Application of ‘The Four Wives’ Story in Real Life
- We do everything in our life that benefits us but we forget that what is most important to us? We do not know what will be the value of this body after we die. That’s why we should do something in our life which will work even after our death.
- Material things have more importance in this world whereas even more important than this is the peace of our soul.
- Human beings are mortal and we all know this well, yet we are ready to do everything for our selfishness and forget that we have to leave this world one day.
- The joy of living in the happiness of others is not in anything else, and those who do this, actually connect with that God and the souls of those people also get peace.
