Once upon a time, in a forest, a tortoise and a hare were very good friends. The hare was famous for its fast speed and the tortoise was known for its slow speed. Once both of them were talking to each other. Then suddenly the hare started making fun of the slow speed of the tortoise.

The tortoise got irritated after hearing the rabbit’s words, but still said, “What if I walk slow, if we race, I will beat you.” Hearing the tortoise, the hare was surprised and said, “Don’t joke with me.”

The hare agreed with the tortoise. The next day, the rat was appointed as the referee. A field on the bank of the river was selected for the race. A mile away from there, a banyan tree was considered the place where the race would end.

Before the start of the race, the referee mouse came and made both of them stand at their places. “Attention!”, said the mouse. The race has started. The hare ran at lightning speed and on seeing it, he went far away.

Seeing the movement of the tortoise, all the animals started laughing. The rabbit was running fast. After reaching about half a mile, the rabbit looked back. But the tortoise was nowhere to be seen.

The hare thought: ‘The tortoise is far away now.  Why not eat some grass till then and take some rest.’ The hare then ate some green grass and drank water from the river. After that, he lay down under a tree and started resting. After some time the rabbit fell asleep.

The tortoise continued with a slow speed towards the finish line without stopping. The hare slept for a long time. As he woke up, he ran fast towards the finish line. But when he reached there, the hare was totally surprised. He was stunned to see that the tortoise was already there. The hare had lost the race. After this race, the hare never made fun of the tortoise.

What is the moral of ‘The Tortoise and The Hare’ Story?

This story teaches us that we should keep working hard continuously to achieve success. No matter how difficult it is, we should not give up. Slowly but steadily you should keep moving forward.

Application of ‘The Tortoise and The Hare’ Story in Real-life

    • In Today’s competitive era, everyone wants to move ahead. He wants to beat everyone by working fast. But the more we work fast, the more our chances of making mistakes increase. Therefore, think carefully and do it slowly, but do such work in which there is no possibility of mistake.
    • It is not necessary that we can achieve success only by doing fast work. Success can be achieved by working slowly but steadily. No matter what the situation is, we should not stop.

So this was the old version of ‘The Tortoise and The Hare’ story which we all know. Now, let’s read the new version of this story that you haven’t heard…..the-tortoise-and-the-hare

    Part 1

After losing the race, the hare gets frustrated and realizes that he lost the race because he was overconfident. He should have stopped after reaching his destination. The next day, he again challenges the tortoise to a race. The tortoise has won the first race, so it is full of confidence and soon agrees.

The race begins and the hare continues to run to the finish line without stopping and beats the tortoise by a huge margin.

    Moral of the Story

The fast and consistent walkers always win over the slow and steady walkers. It means it is good to be slow and steady but it is even better to be fast and consistent. For example, if there are two types of people in the office, then those people are always ahead who is also fast and are also consistent in their field.

The story is still more my friend…

    Part 2

This time the tortoise considers the high thinking. And he understands that the way the race is going on now, he can never win. He once again challenges the hare to a race, this time the tortoise asks to keep the race route according to himself. The hare agrees.

The race starts. The hare runs fast towards the designated place, but there is a fast river flowing along the way. The poor rabbit has to stop there. The tortoise slowly crosses that river and wins the race.

    Moral of the Story

From this story we get the moral that first know your strength and work according to it, you will definitely get success.

Wait, the story isn’t over yet…

    Part 3

After so much race, now both the tortoise and the hare became good friends. They both began to understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Both of them thought that if they both supported each other then they could win any race. So both of them finally decided to run together again. This time they both decided to work as a team and not as a competitor.

Both stood at the starting line. Get Set Go!! And immediately the hare lifted the tortoise and started running. They soon reached the bank of the river. Now it was the tortoise’s turn, the tortoise made the hare sit on its back and both crossed the river comfortably. Now once again, the hare picked up the tortoise and ran towards the finish line. Together they completed the race. Both were very happy and satisfied. Never before had the two of them found so much joy in a race.

    Moral of the Story

Teamwork is always better than individual performance. No matter how strong a performer you are, you cannot win every match on your own. If you want to win consistently then you have to learn to work in a team, apart from your ability, you have to understand the strength of others.

Another thing to note here is that both The Tortoise and The Hare did not sit down in despair after their defeat, but tried to understand the situation and prepared themselves for the new challenge. While Hare worked harder after his defeat, Tortoise changed his strategy to convert his defeat into victory.
