The Wind and The Sun | Aesop’s Fable

When it comes to strength and gentle persuasion, then this story fits perfectly. This ‘The Wind and The Sun’ beautiful Aesop fable teaches us a lot in this modern era…

Once upon a time, a debate arose between The Wind and The Sun as to who was more powerful. The Wind said to The Sun, “I am more powerful than you.” The Sun replied to The Wind on this and said, “No, you are not stronger than me.”

Thus, they argued with each other for almost six weeks. At last, The Wind said, “Let’s see who is more powerful among us.” To this, The Sun replied, “Okay, I agree too.”

Then suddenly, The Wind saw a traveller. On seeing him, an idea came up to The Wind. He said to The Sun, “Look, the traveller is coming, whoever forces him to take off his coat, he will be considered as most powerful. I’ll try it first till then you hide behind the clouds.”

The Sun hides behind the clouds and The Wind starts blowing very hard. But the harder The Wind was blowing, the traveller would wrap the coat more tightly around his body to protect himself from the cold. The Wind kept blowing like this for a long time and finally got tired and calmed down.

The Wind could not succeed in getting off the passenger’s coat. Seeing this, The Sun said, ”Now, it’s my turn.” Then the wind stopped suddenly. And the sun came out of the clouds and started shining brightly.

The Sun had not even spent half its energy yet. In the meantime, the passenger was badly drenched with sweat. When he could not bear it, at last, he took off his coat and put it on his shoulder. To escape from the heat of the sun, he sat down under the shade of a tree near the roadside.

Seeing this, The Northwind accepted his defeat and went away after saluting The Sun.
